Rajendra Chitale is an independent Director at Reliance Life Insurance Company Limited.

He is the Managing Partner of M/s. M.P. Chitale& Associates, India's leading financial boutique specialist with converging expertise in financial structuring, legal, tax and regulatory advice,Government of Maharashtra. Rajendra serves as independent director on the boards of the National Securities Clearing Corporation Limited, Asset Reconstruction Company (India) Limited, Reliance Capital Limited, Ambuja Cements Limited, Hinduja Global Solutions Limited, Hinduja Ventures Limited, Ishaan Real Estate Plc, Reliance General Insurance Company Ltd. He is a member of the Insurance Advisory Committee of the IRDA and the Advisory Committee on Regulations, Competition Commission of India. He has served on the board of LIC, UTI, NSE, SIDBI, and has served as a member of Takeover Panel of SEBI, the Company Law Advisory Committee, Government of India, the Investor Education and Protection Fund, Government of India, and the Maharashtra Board for Restructuring of State Enterprises.

Amit Bapna, Non Executive Director

Amit Bapna is currently the Chief Financial Officer at Reliance Capital Limited and Non Executive Director of Reliance Life Insurance Company Limited.

He has been with the Reliance Group since 1999. In his existing role, he provides financial direction, oversight and control for Reliance Capital Limited and its group companies and further provides strategic leadership for Corporate Treasury. He has over thirteen years of experience in varied business environments e.g. manufacturing and financial services. He has earlier worked in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer of Reliance Capital Asset Management Limited and Reliance Consumer Finance where he played a key role and had been a significant contributor to the exponential growth of the business bringing operational & process disciplines. Earlier still, he had worked in the Corporate Treasury of Reliance Industries Limited.

Amit is a Chartered Accountant.

Kazuhide Toda, Non Executive Director

Kazuhide Toda is General Manager for Asia Pacific of Nippon Life Insurance Company.

Kazuhide Toda has spent almost 30 years with Nippon Life Insurance Company since 1986. He has been mainly responsible for the foreign securities investments, including the period of secondment to the subsidiary in Germany for 3 years.

He played a key role at Nissay Asset Management Corporation for 4 years, investment arm of Nippon Life, as Head of Public Communications Office from 2003 to 2006 and Head of Corporate Planning Office from 2004 to 2006.

Before he moved to Singapore as General Manager for Asia Pacific and assumed the position of a director at Reliance Life in 2014, he was in charge of corporate lending to the major Japanese companies.

Kazuhide Toda holds degree of B.A. (Economics) from Sophia University in Japan and also spent 2 years in Munich to study German at Goethe Institute and business administration at Ludwig Maximilians University Munich with the sponsorship of the company.

Ashish Vohra, Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director

Ashish Vohra is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest Life Insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited, amongst India’s most valuable Financial Services companies and Nippon Life, Japan, the largest private Insurer in Japan and a Global Fortune 500 company. He is also an Executive Director on the Board of the Company. Under his leadership the company consistently maintained its number 1 position amongst the non bank owned Life Insurance companies in India.

Prior to joining Max Life, Ashish was Executive Vice President and Head – Commercial Business at Fullerton India Credit Corporation. As a Founder team member at Fullerton, Ashish headed the P&L responsibility for Commercial Mass Markets and helped Fullerton to successfully capture the retail finance opportunity in India through secured, unsecured and fee based products delivered through a network of 500 branches and 8000 employees. Earlier, at Citibank N.A, he was the Business Manager for Asset Based Finance for India that helped the Bank gain a strong foothold in the SME space in India.

Ashish has served a long stint with Eicher Motors earlier.

Ashish is a Mechanical Engineer from IIT-BHU, and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from IIM, Bangalore.

He is known for his ability to seamlessly partner with team members and achieve shared goals. He is a firm believer in the fact that deliveries happen through people and teams.


D.Varadarajan, Independent Director

Mr. D. Varadarajan, Advocate, Supreme Court of India, is a renowned insurance and corporate law counsel and advisor, based in Delhi. He has more than three decades of rich experience in corporate matters and affairs. He served as a Member on the Insurance Advisory Committee constituted by the IRDA, and made significant contribution in finalising and legally vetting almost all the Regulations framed by the IRDA. He has also been a Member on various other Expert Committees of IRDA, including the K.P. Narasimhan Committee on Insurance Laws Reforms, popularly known as the “KPN Committee”.

He has been rendering legal advice on various intricate aspects of laws and regulatory aspects to hosts of Insurance Companies, engaged in life and non-life business, and defending their interests at various judicial and quasi-judicial forums. He has also acted as Sole Arbitrator for resolving commercial disputes. His opinions are solicited by the top notch Legal and Solicitors Firms. Besides Insurance, Company, Competition and Corporate Laws, his fields of specialisation include Commercial Laws, Arbitration, FEMA and Anti-Money Laundering Law, vetting of deeds and documents and articulation of corporate strategies by monitoring closely legislative and quasi-legislative changes and developments. He is invited by many Institutions and Organisations of high repute to address at the various national and international seminars and conferences.

Renu Challu, Independent Director

Ms. Challu is a Post Graduate in Economics (Gold Medalist) and is an associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers. She has chaired the Hyderabad Chapter of PRMIA (Professional Risk Managers International Association) and also represented Associate Banks in the Management Committee of IBA (Indian Banks Association).

She has a vast experience of over four decades in the Banking and Financial Services Sector in Senior Management and Board positions. She has held various leadership roles such as Deputy Managing Director (Corporate Strategy and New Businesses) with SBI Mumbai, Managing Director with SBH, Managing Director & CEO with SBI DFHI, Mumbai, Chief General Manager with SBI Bhopal, President and CEO with SBI Capital Markets Ltd., Mumbai, General Manager with SBI Corporate Mumbai and also served as Vice President for SBI, New York.

In her several professional stints, Ms. Renu has contributed for remarkable business expansions and growth. She followed the development and implementation of best Strategy Formulation, Risk Management, Asset Quality Management and Financial Inclusions.

Indira J. Parikh, Independent Director

Prof. Parikh is an M.Ed from University of Rochester, New York USA and received her Doctorate from Gujarat University. She was a faculty at IIM-Ahmedabad for over 30 years and Dean from 2002 to 2005 apart from having taught at INSEAD, Fontainebleau (France) and Texas A&M University. She has specialized in organization development and design, and institution building.

Currently, she is the President of Antardisha, a private entity creating a space for individuals and organizations to have a dialogue for self-discovery, and to reflect on past and renew themselves for the future. She is also the Founder President of FLAME, Pune where she has been involved in creating the academic vision of holistic & liberal education and in shaping the institute. She has been a consultant and has conducted diagnostic studies focusing on leadership and institution building in many public, private and multinational organizations.

Prof. Parikh has been honored with several life time achievement awards both nationally and internationally. She has written numerous articles published in national & international journals and is the co-author/author of several books.

Gen. Ved Prakash Malik, Independent Director

General VP Malik was Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army from 01 October 1997 to 30 September 2000. Concurrently, he was Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee of India.

A graduate from Defence Services Staff College and MSc in Defence and Strategic Studies from the Madras University, General Malik is an alumnus of Army War College, Mhow and National Defence College, New Delhi.

He was awarded Ati Vishishta Seva Medal in 1986 and Param Vishishta Seva Medal, in 1996. Later, he was given ‘Excellence in Leadership’ award by the Atur Foundation, Pune; ‘Distinguished Fellowship’ of the Institute of Directors, New Delhi; and ‘Pride of the Nation’ award by the Doon Citizens’ Council in July 2000.

Post retirement, he was nominated as a member of the National Security Advisory Board for two terms (2001-2003).

Since 2003, General Malik has been serving as an Independent Director/Advisor of some well known multinational companies. In 2007, he was nominated on the judges’ panel to select and rank Top Companies for Leaders in Asia Pacific Region by Hewitt Associates, who undertook this exercise in collaboration with Fortune Magazine and The RBL Group.

Apart from writing opinion columns in newspapers and professional magazines, General Malik continues to address civil and military institutions, think tanks and corporate organizations on strategic thinking, security, human resource development and leadership and motivational issues. He has authored two books, “Kargil: From Surprise to Victory” and “India’s Military Conflicts and Diplomacy: An Inside View of Decision Making”, both published by HarperCollins, India.

Minoru Kimura, Non Executive Director

Minoru Kimura is a General Manager of Nippon Life’s International Planning & Operations Department.

Minoru Kimura has spent more than 25 years at Nippon Life since he joined in 1990. He has been responsible for both domestic and foreign securities investment, including his assignment at NLI International Inc. in New York, Nissay Deutsche Asset Management Europe and NLI Investments Europe in London.

Previously, he was General Manager of Nippon Life’s Treasury and Markets Department overseeing Nippon Life’s entire domestic fixed income investment. He has also played an active role at Nissay Asset Management, Nippon Life’s asset management subsidiary, in charge of various roles including Head of investment planning.

Minoru Kimura holds a degree of B.A.(Law) from Kyoto University.

Shiv Tiwary, Head – Business Transformation

Shiv Tiwary is Head – Business Transformation at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life, Japan.

Shiv heads Business Transformation office at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company and is responsible for leading Strategic Initiatives to bring about sustainable transformation across functional areas. He has over 15 years of rich experience across Strategy, Business Planning, Change Management, Distribution Development and Business Transformation. Prior to joining Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company, he has held leadership positions at YES Bank where he was responsible for strategy development and deployment across Insurance Distribution, Equity Broking, Investment Banking and for leading PMO for strategic initiatives. Shiv has a rich experience in the Insurance Industry having worked at Aviva India in the areas of strategy as well as developing new distribution channels.  In the past, Shiv has worked as a Management Consultant at Tata Strategic Management Group (TSMG), the management consulting arm of the Tata Group. 

Shiv hold a Degree in Engineering from Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Kolkata and a degree in Management from NITIE, Mumbai.

Srinivas Ladwa, Chief Human Resources Officer

Srinivas Ladwa is the Chief Human Resources Officer for Reliance Nippon Life Insurance, one of the largest Life Insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited, amongst India’s most valuable Financial Services companies and Nippon Life, Japan, the largest private Insurer in Japan and a Global Fortune 500 company.

Srinivas comes with the diverse set of experiences having managed various aspects of HR both in India and internationally with over 18 years of enriching experience in the Human Resources function, across consulting and BFSI sectors. His last assignment before joining us, was with Wells Fargo as the Regional Compensation Lead for Asia Pacific, based out of Hong Kong. Prior to this, he was the Business HR Lead for the Asia Pacific region for a business division at Deutsche Bank. Before moving to Hong Kong, he was Country Business HR Head (Corporate & Investment Bank) of Deutsche Bank India.

He has also worked with Royal Bank of Scotland/ABN Amro across India and UK. As a consultant working with Ernst & Young and Mercer Consulting, Srinivas has advised clients across industry sectors on human resource management.

Srinivas is an MBA from Symbiosis International University, Pune.

Katsuhisa Kumasako, Head Representative, Nippon Life

Katsuhisa Kumasako is Nippon Life’s Head Representative at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life, Japan.

Nippon Life, with a history of 126 years, is one of the oldest life insurance companies in Japan and one of the largest in the world. Eager to expand its insurance business in Asia, Nippon Life is focusing on India as one of its key markets.

After spending 6 years on assignments in New York, Katsuhisa Kumasako came back to Tokyo in April 2010 to develop Nippon Life's overseas insurance business. He was in charge of relationship building with the Reliance Group from the beginning, and for the last 5 years, has been deeply involved in the strategic alliance and business collaborations between the two groups.

He brings to the table his extensive experience, spanning 23 years with Nippon Life, in Marketing & Sales Planning, Channel & Service Development, Corporate Planning & Governance, Group & EB Businesses and International Business.

He graduated in March 1993 from the School of Political Science and Economics, Waseda University, Japan, with a major in International Economics. His unique career also includes working for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs for two years, from 1997 to 1999. There he experienced and exercised Economic Diplomacy, such as Liberalization and Facilitation of Trade and Investment and Economic Cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region.
Prithesh Chaubey, Appointed Actuary

Prithesh Chaubey is Appointed Actuary at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life, Japan. Prithesh is responsible for Actuarial and Product Management function within the company.

Prithesh is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Actuaries of India and holds a Bachelor Degree in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics from Lucknow University.

Prior to this, Prithesh worked with Tata AIA Life Insurance as Vice President & Chief Actuary, where he spent over 9 years in actuarial role covering Product Design/ Pricing, Statutory Valuation Reporting, Embedded Value/ Economic Capital, Asset Liability Management and reinsurance. He also managed Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) for the company.

Prithesh comes with a rich experience of over 20 years in the Life Insurance industry with organizations like Aviva India and LIC, where he played a key role in their success in Actuarial, Product Development, Risk Management, Reinsurance and Group/Corporate Business.

Prithesh is closely associated with the Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI). He has been an examiner and review examiner and member of Advisory Group on Examination. Currently he is member of Advisory Group on HR, Administration and Finance (HAF) & Advisory Group on Professionalism, Ethics and Conduct (PEC) of IAI.

Ramesh Viswanathan, Chief – Bancassurance & Partnership Distribution

Ramesh Viswanathan  is the Chief – Bancassurance & Partnership Distribution of Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life. He heads the Alternate sales channels which include Bancassurance, Third Party Distribution, Direct Marketing, Group, International & Online businesses.

Prior to joining Reliance Nippon Life, Ramesh was Senior Vice President-Sales & Distribution at ICICI Prudential Life Insurance. In his 8+ years stint at ICICI Prudential, he has worked in leadership roles across different channels such as Tied Agency, Corporate Agency/Brokers and Proprietary Sales Force. Ramesh is the recipient of many awards, including the ICICI group leadership award on 2 occasions.

Ramesh has over 16 years of work experience across categories for companies such as Castrol India Limited and Bharti Cellular Limited in multiple geographies prior to joining the Life Insurance industry.

Ramesh is an Industrial Engineering Graduate from University of Pune and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management Studies from K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.

Srinivasan Iyengar, Chief Operating Officer
Srinivasan Iyengar is the Chief Operating Officer at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life, Japan.

Prior to joining us, Srinivasan was with Aegon Religare Life Insurance where in capacity of the COO, he led several projects to achieve Service Excellence and Operational Efficiencies to support business strategy.

Srinivasan has done his Graduation in Commerce from Mumbai University and an advanced course in Systems Management & Technology.

Sunder is Chief Risk Officer at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company, one of India’s leading life insurance companies. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life, Japan.

Out of a career spanning over three decades, Sunder has dedicated ten years to Reliance Nippon Life, where he has been at the helm of Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit, BCP, Information Security, Legal, Secretarial, Claims and Compliance. He has judiciously used technology to implement a risk-based strategy across all these functions.

Sunder’s profile includes leading companies like DSP Merrill Lynch, ING Vysya, Credit Lyonais, Standard Chartered, Bank Internasional Indonesia, Ernst & Young and Deloitte. His experience spans more than 12 countries, in significant roles with exposure to bank businesses and operations.

Viral Berawala, Chief Investment Officer

Viral Berawala is the Chief Investment Officer at Reliance Nippon Life Insurance Company Limited, one of the largest life insurance companies in India. Reliance Nippon Life is a joint venture between Reliance Capital Limited and Nippon Life. Previously with TCS where he spent over 7 years, Viral comes with over 14 years of experience in the Financial Services and Information Technology sectors.
